Herzegovina
Herzegovina (Херцеговина/Hercegovina) es una región histórica en los Alpes Dináricos y en la actualidad la mitad meridional de Bosnia Herzegovina. La mayor parte de su territorio es montañoso, karst excepto en el valle central del río Neretva. La mayor ciudad es Mostar, situada en el centro de la región. Otras ciudades importantes son Trebinje, Konjic y Foča. Las fronteras entre Bosnia y Herzegovina no están claras y son, a menudo, motivo de disputa.

► Región histórica de los Balcanes, que juntamente con Bosnia forma la República de Bosnia-Herzegovina. Está situada entre Montenegro y Dalmacia, al S de Bosnia. Agricultura y ganadería. Lignito y aluminio. Su principal centro es Mostar (63 300 h). En 1482 la conquistaron los turcos; por el Tratado de Berlín (1878) fue separada del Imperio otomano y cedida a Austria, hasta que, en 1918, pasó a formar parte de Yugoslavia. En 1992 se independizó junto a Bosnia, creándose la República de Bosnia-Herzegovina.
